THE REDESIGNED FLYBACK MECHANISM.

The flyback function of the chronograph makes it possible to stop an ongoing time measurement by pressing a pusher and instantly start a new measurement simply by releasing the pusher again.
This function was very popular during the fledgling years of aviation in the early 20th century, but it was gradually forgotten in the wake of the rapid evolution of technology. With a newly developed mechanism, Lange gave the flyback function a renewed lift.

When the reset push piece is pressed during an ongoing time measurement, this interrupts power transmission to the chronograph mechanism. With both of its arms, the cam lever contacts the heart-shaped cam discs of the chronograph sweep-seconds hand and of the minute counter. Because it shares the same arbor with the heart-shaped cam discs, the chronograph sweep-seconds hand returns to its initial position; if applicable, so does the minute counter hand. A new measurement begins as soon as the push piece is released.
