THE QUEST FOR PERFECTION.

To turn the technically sophisticated timepieces into exquisite works of art as well, Lange’s watchmakers assemble each movement twice – without exception. This is unique in precision watchmaking and entails an enormous amount of extra work. But in this respect, the arguably most famous Saxon manufactory tolerates no compromise. It is one of the dictates of Lange’s quest for perfection.

THE SPECIAL ASPECTS OF SECOND ASSEMBLY.

The final assembly of the movement takes place under 3x to 12x magnification. The blued screws are now set as well. To protect their polished heads from being marred or scratched during the initial assembly phase, their places were previously occupied by assembly screws.

To minimise friction and wear in the movement, the master watch-makers lubricate all bearings and sliding surfaces with special oils and greases, choosing those grades that best safeguard the smooth function of each part. Subsequently, the movement is adjusted a second time, fitted with the dial and hands, and inserted in a platinum or 18-carat gold case.

THE RUN-IN PHASE OF A WATCH.

At this point, Lange’s master watchmakers are far from satisfied with the degree of rate accuracy attained so far. In a run-in phase that lasts for several weeks, they check whether the watch runs with sufficient precision and verify that all its mechanisms function smoothly. For this purpose, they attach it to an orbital winder that simulates the various positions of the timepiece under realistic everyday circumstances.
